The ZEISS Lattice SIM 5 is a high-end super-resolution platform utilizing Structured Illumination Microscopy (SIM) to surpass the diffraction limit of light. By applying a lattice-based illumination pattern rather than traditional linear stripes, the system achieves a lateral resolution of approximately 60–120 nm with enhanced contrast and acquisition speeds. This lattice pattern maintains high-quality data deeper into tissues and provides a superior balance between spatial resolution and temporal speed compared to conventional confocal or SIM systems. Because it is compatible with standard fluorescent dyes and proteins, it does not require specialized blinking probes. The system is particularly effective for resolving for example the fine architecture of the cytoskeleton, visualizing the mechanisms of virus entry and replication in host cells, or detailing the organization of synaptic proteins in neuronal cultures.
